Overview

Course content and focus areas

A one year Master’s study course at the History Seminar of Goethe University in Frankfurt follows on from a four year Bachelor degree programme and enables the student, as part of the second qualification stage, to meet the challenges of the modern knowledge society.
The programme of study is conceived as spanning vast time periods so that profound insights can be developed of the history of pre-Greek cultures through to contemporary history. During the research-oriented Master’s study course the student acquires the ability to research a complex historical topic, to explain it and to present it in various forms. Core competencies for scientific work are deepened in a programme of events and are subsequently used to undertake a concrete research project. A main area of focus of the programme of study is upon enabling self-sufficient and personally responsible work with a wide variety of bodies of knowledge in order to undertake extensive research work and to process, understand and classify a multiplicity of information.
