Mariella Veneziano-Osterrath studied at York (BA English Language and Linguistics and History) and Oxford (PGCE). She achieved an Advanced Certificate in Management Studies from Canterbury Christchurch College while working in London.

She has taught in state schools since 1991 within all age-ranges and in both England and Germany. She was promoted to Senior Management positions in school and worked for the Nottingham City Task Force to improve standards and management in schools with a range of difficulties. While teaching in Nottingham, she achieved the NPQH qualification for Headteachers from the National College of School Leadership.

She continued working in state schools after coming to Germany, working as a Gymnasium teacher of English and History in Bad Nauheim, before moving on to her appointment as a lecturer in the Didaktik department of Gießen University.

She joined Goethe University Frankfurt in 2011 as a Research Assistant. She works closely with colleagues in England to arrange internships and especially with the CONNECT Network for Global Learning in London. She has a range of academic interests, work and projects on going within the IEAS department including:

  • School teaching practice development-currently the Praxissemester pilot project
  • The Tellus Project, working with refugees in the EFL classroom
  • Inclusive education and special needs
  • Drama education
  • PSHE: Personal, Social and Health Education in the English classroom
  • The Language Assistant programme: co-ordinator for internships in state and public schools in England
