International conference "Horizonte der islamischen Theologie"

Frankfurt, 1-5 September 2014

Introduction

The Zentrum für Islamische Studien (Center for Islamic Studies) at Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main, Germany, is pleased to announce the conference Horizonte der islamischen Theologie (Horizons of Islamic Theology) to be held from Monday 1 to Friday 5 September 2014 at the University of Frankfurt.

With six thematic sections and more than thirty panels, this international conference will focus on the key aspects of Islamic Theological Studies, i.e. textual scholarship, historical and cultural studies, intellectual history of Islam, religious education and practical theology, as well as linguistics and literary studies with a focus on Arabic. Furthermore, it includes an interdisciplinary section spanning a number of different thematic areas. The conference addresses experts and people interested in the fields of Islamic theology and neighboring disciplines such as Islamic Studies, Christian theology, philosophy, and law. The range of topics covered, as well as its interdisciplinary and dialogical approach make this conference a future-oriented project aimed at stimulating discussion and research in the field of Islamic Theology.

Conference Sections

The conference includes six different sections with several panels each. The sections are:

Section 1: Textual Studies

Conference Languages

Panels will be held in English and German. However, there are also a number of panels in Arabic and Turkish (as indicated on the homepage).

Conditions of Submission of Abstracts

Individuals who wish to participate are expected to submit their abstracts in English or German (350-400 words) directly to the chair of the section they wish to participate in. If you would like to present projects please contact the chair of section 6.
Deadline for submitting the abstracts: 31 May 2014.

Informing of the acceptance of the abstracts: 15 June 2014.
