Durch die Projekte Edda-Kommentar und Edda-Rezeption wird eine umfangreiche Sammlung von Quellen und Forschungsliteratur zur nordischen Mythologie und Heldensage aufgebaut. Neben zahlreichen Editionen und illustrierten Bearbeitungen der Liederedda und der Snorra Edda enthält die Sammlung internationale wissenschaftliche Literatur zu allen Gebieten der Edda-Forschung. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt liegt auf Zeugnissen der Edda-Rezeption in verschiedenen Medien: Außer Büchern gehören Graphikmappen, Comics, Filme, Musikalien, Tonträger, Computerspiele, Postkarten, Sammelbilder, Produktwerbung und vieles mehr zum ständig wachsenden Bestand. Daneben entsteht ein umfassendes Archiv digitalisierter Reproduktionen von bildlichen Darstellungen. Die Dokumentation der Bestände in elektronischen Datenbanken befindet sich im Aufbau und soll über ein Internetportal der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht werden, ergänzt um fundierte Erläuterungen auf der Grundlage aktueller Forschung sowie um Text-, Bild- und Klangproben. Schon jetzt sind Teile der Sammlung, vor allem Bücher, über den Online-Katalog der Frankfurter Universitätsbibliothek recherchierbar (http://suche.ub.uni-frankfurt.de/). Sie können im Bibliothekszentrum Geisteswissenschaft en (BzG) der Universitätsbibliothek eingesehen werden (http://www.ub.uni-frankfurt.de/bzg/). Die übrigen Bestände befinden sich im Institut für Skandinavistik.

Die Edda-Sammlung gehört zu den Sammlungen an der Goethe-Universität. Sie wird intensiv auch in der Lehre genutzt; ein Ergebnis ist zum Beispiel die studentische Präsentation zum Dichtergott Bragi und seiner Rezeption

Edda-Collection

In conjunction with the two projects Edda-Commentary and Edda-Reception and as a result of the cooperation between them an extensive collection is being built up that embraces both aspects of the complex Norse mythology and heroic legend: the sources (medieval and post-medieval) and the scholarly literature devoted to them. In addition to numerous editions and illustrated adaptations of the Poetic Edda and Snorri’s Prose Edda the collection includes scholarly literature in many languages on all facets of the subject. A further area of concentration is upon the examples of adaptation in the various media: not only books but also portfolios, comic books, films, music editions and libretti, recordings, computer games, postcards, trading cards (Sammelbilder), advertisements, to name only a few kinds of material under collection. Over and above this we also are building up a comprehensive archive of digitalised reproductions of pictorial representations. The documentation of the collections in databases is to be made available to the public via an internet portal which will provide scholarly elucidation on the basis of current research and also selected examples of texts as well as pictorial representations and music. Certain parts of the collection, primarily books, already are registered in the online catalogue of the Frankfurt University Library (http://suche.ub.uni-frankfurt.de/). The publications found there can be used in the Bibliothekszentrum Geisteswissenschaften (BzG) of the University Library (http://www.ub.uni-frankfurt.de/bzg/). The remaining parts of the collections are housed in the Institut für Skandinavistik.
