Praveen Kumar Pothapakula (PhD Student)

FIELD OF RESEARCH:

Interactions of Atmosphere-Ocean and Land in Regional Climate System Modelling at seamless scales

I started my PhD in the group in March 2016. My research focuses on assessing the information flow and system behaviour in the regional atmosphere and ocean model COSMO-CLM/NEMO. I am also interested in assessing the interactions of ocean-atmosphere-land systems for intense mesoscale weather phenomenon. Before moving to Goethe, I worked on SST changes and its interactions with the Tropical Cyclones over Bay of Bengal with Weather Research and Forecasting model during my master’s thesis at IIT Bhubaneswar, India.

EDUCATION

2013-2015 Master in Climate Science and Technology, IIT Bhubaneswar, India

2015-2016 Research fellow at IIT Bhubaneswar, High Resolution regional coupled ocean- atmosphere modeling system for the prediction of intense vortices over the Indian Seas

2016- present PhD Student at Institute of Atmosphere and Environment (IAU)

PUBLICATIONS

Masters thesis: Interactions of Sea Surface Temperatures with Tropical Cyclones over Bay of Bengal (BoB)
