Veranstaltungsreihe Karriere

Promotion fertig! Und wie geht es dann weiter?

Im Center Sustain startet im Herbst 2017 eine Veranstaltungsreihe mit Exkursionen und Vorträgen zu außeruniversitären Karriereoptionen, speziell für Promovierende, PostDocs und weitere Interessierte, die ihre berufliche Zukunft innerhalb des großen komplexen Bereichs der Nachhaltigkeit sehen.

Es werden Arbeitsfelder in nachhaltiger Unternehmensführung, außeruniversitären Forschungsinstituten, Ministerien, Start-Ups, Beratungsunternehmen, Organisationen für Natur- und Artenschutz, dem Energie- und Versorgungssektor, NGOs oder der Politik vorgestellt.

Dr. Britta Acksel: Making Utopia possible - Scientific Advisor at the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy

Dr. Britta Acksel studied Cultural Anthropology and Political Science in Münster, Hastings (NE/USA), Frankfurt and, Istanbul. She completed her doctorate in Cultural Anthropology at Goethe University Frankfurt supervised by Prof. Dr. Gisela Welz and Prof. Dr. Jörg Niewöhner (HU Berlin/TU Munich) in 2022. Titled “Städte auf dem Weg zur Nachhaltigkeit. Ethnographische Einblicke und Analysen” her Dissertation was just published by transcirpt (funded by the Open Access Grant of Goethe-University). 

As the title indicates (literally translated as “Cities on their way to sustainability”) the cultural anthropologist does research on different aspects of sustainability, mainly in relation to cities for many years. Starting in 2013 she was a research fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities Essen (KWI), first working for Prof. Dr. Claus Leggewie and from 2018 onwards for Prof. Dr. Julika Griem. In her time at KWI Britta Acksel was part of different inter- and transdisciplinary projects and involved in setting up the teaching lab, among other things. 

After a term at the Institute for Media Studies at Ruhr University Bochum, she started her current position at Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment, and Energy in 2023. Here she is part of the team Strategy Development and Research Coordination, where she works as scientific advisor for methods of transformation research. Part of her work is knowledge management, consultancy concerning research methods, committee and outreach work, methods development and research, acquisitions, and many other things. As part of the Sustain-Career Talks she will share insights into her work for one of Germany leading research institutes for Sustainability and Transformation research.
