Do not hesitate to contact us, if you are interested in applying for an internship in one of our cooperative schools. We support you in creating a motivational letter as well as the CV. In accordance with your suitability for one of the following cooperative schools, we further recommend your application. To receive our support, please ask us for an appointment via email: haenssig@em.uni-frankfurt.de 

Note: For some schools, we recommend further language competences besides English and German. Basic language competences or a deeper knowledge should be applied before your practical phase abroad. The Goethe-University’s language center offers various courses in different languages.


Colegio Alemán: German School Alexander von Humboldt A.C. in Xochimilco (Mexico-City)

Our third Mexican cooperative school is the German School in Xochimilco, another district in Mexico-City. This school, too, convinces with its highly modern learning environment and its excellent digital infrastructure. The school’s aim lies in teaching children to become individual citizen, and to create intercultural education in an atmosphere of communication and a sense of community.

We highly recommend our students to acquire some Spanish language competences before applying for an internship in Mexico.

Colegio Alemán: German School Alexander von Humboldt A.C. in Lomas Verdes (Mexico-City)

This German School in Lomas Verdes, a district in the North-West of Mexico-City, exists for 127 years and is ever since characterized by its aspiration for continuous development. Despite its biculturality and trilingualism, the school offers an excellent learning environment as well as sports activities and modern digital devices.

Marie Kruses Skole in Farum (Copenhagen, Denmark)

The local Danish school, Marie Kruses Skole, can be found about 20 kilometers North of Copenhagen. The school offers an all-day education in all years from primary to secondary school and students have the chance to complete their education with the final exams in the Gymnasium, which can be compared to the German Abitur. Besides the outstanding professionalism, the school emphasizes a strong sense of community and a good learning environment.

The German International School in Chicago is one of our cooperative schools that we would highly recommend to our students of L1, primary school. The period of internships at the German International School Chicago ranges from four to six months. The school stands out especially for its low student-teacher ratios and individualized learning.

We are happy to announce the 22nd cooperation of the ABL-ITE (Goethe-University) with the Penta College (CSG) Jacob van Liesveldt in Hellevoetsluis, which is a city in the south of Rotterdam in the province of Zuidholland. The school’s aim is to help their students developing their full intellectual potential and becoming responsible and sociable citizen in a globalized world.

German School Tokyo Yokohama

The German School Tokyo Yokohama is the oldest German school in Eastern Asia. It was founded in 1904 in Yokohama, and officially inaugurated in May 1905. We are lucky to call this school our 21st cooperative school, and to offer our students internships in this inclusive and support-oriented school in Japan. This school is especially interesting for L5-students, who can gain cultural and individual practical experiences.

Despite its Christian-catholic faith, the Colegio Alemán St. Thomas Morus Santiago de Chile is a tolerant and open-minded educational institution. The students are taught multiculturally between the Chilean and German language and culture according to the so-called immersion method.

Twin Cities German Immersion School (TCGIS) St. Paul (Minnesota)

Not only is the TCGIS according to its number of students the biggest German-speaking school in the north of America, but also the first school cooperation of the ABL-ITE in the USA. The students study in English and German according to the so-called immersion method. The school offers internships with a length of one semester or a year.

German School St. Petersburg (Russia)

For future teachers, getting to know international schools means receiving a better preparation for the challenges of the teaching profession and the uncertainties in our globalized society. Therefore, to expand our contacts worldwide another major aim of our university was to build a cooperation with a school in Russia. At the German School St. Petersburg, students have the chance to teach and learn in a period of 6 weeks to 6 months.

German School Barranquilla (Columbia)

In May 2019, we luckily signed another Memorandum of Understanding with one of the leading schools in natural sciences, the German School Barranquilla, during the lecture series “Internationalization from home” at the Goethe-University in Frankfurt.

German School Prague

The successful cooperation between the German School Prague and Goethe University has led to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding. Teaching students from Goethe University will continue to be supported through internships at the German School in Prague, Czech Republic.

German School Guatemala

The German School in Guatemala-City offers teaching students of Goethe-University a chance to experience a German International School with a focus on bicultural learning. Alongside the German Abitur, the school also offers its graduates the Guatemalan Bachillerato.


German School Ho Chi Minh City

Following the education fair didacta 2019, Goethe University and the International German School Ho Chi Minh City signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The International German School offers classes in German, English and Vietnamese as well as French as a foreign language. As a German-English bilingual school, the students of various cultural backgrounds come together to grow through mutual exchange. 

The school is currently looking to fill a vacancies in their Primary and Secondary branches. More information can be found here.


German School Warsaw

The Willy-Brandt-School Warsaw has worked with interns from Goethe-University in the past and has finalised this successful cooperation by signing a Memorandum of Understanding.

One of their interns, Mr Drexler, has written a report on his time at the German School Warsaw (German only).


German School Curitiba

The German School Curitiba includes a bilingual kindergarden, a Primary School and a Middle School, in order to support students in their Brasilian and German language acquisition. The school believes in early language learning as a key to successful language acquisition.


New cooperation with the Colegio Alemán (German School) de Guadalajara

The Colegio Alemán regularly offers internship placements to students working towards a teaching degree as part of their practical studies.

A translated excerpt from the school's fundamental concept:

"Our school promotes the community between people from diverse cultural backgrounds and languages. We offer an excellent, internationally competitive education. The successful cooperation between the German School Puebla and Goethe University led to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding. Therefore, teaching students will continue to be supported through internships at the German School in Puebla.

In November 2018, the German School Mexico City signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Goethe University in order to offer the university's teaching students internship positions.

The German School Melbourne regularly offers internships to teaching students of Goethe University.

The German International School Sydney regularly offers internships to teaching students of Goethe University.

German European School Singapur

Singapore, Republic of Singapore

The GESS has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Goethe University and will save available internship positions for students of its partner universities until the end of August. Applications can be send to Mr Hänssig (haenssig@em.uni-frankfurt.de), who will set up a personal interview. Suitable candidates will then be handing in their applications through the school's online application system.


German Swiss International School Hong Kong

Hong Kong, Special Administrative Region of China

The GSIS - German Swiss International School Hong Kong is continuously looking for secondary school interns with a focus on special needs education (learning disabilities, speech, emotional and social development). Internships are likely to begin in early September. Further Information are available here and with Mr Hänssig.


German International School Chennai

Chennai, India

The German International School Chennai, India, provides teaching students of Goethe University with internships between 4 and 6 months in its primary and secondary school. Students who would like to apply for an internship should be in their fourth semester by the time it takes place. Career changers are welcome to apply as well. Applications are open semi-annualy.
