Greetings from the President

Welcome to Goethe University, a world-class centre of higher education, and one of the top-ranking universities in Germany. We do everything we can to help make our international students and scholars feel at home here in Frankfurt. As you explore this website, we hope you benefit from the wealth of information we have put together to help you further your academic and career goals.

Since our founding, nearly 100 years ago, by citizens of Frankfurt committed to establishing a modern university, we have remained true to our ideal of being a “citizens’ university.” Many events within our campuses are open to public participation, ensuring an ongoing and dynamic intellectual exchange between our university and the wider cosmopolitan society of Frankfurt.

Besides our new main campus in Westend, Goethe University has campuses located in other parts of Frankfurt: Bockenheim (the former main campus, which will slowly be phased out), Niederrad (the university hospital), and Riedberg (a state-of-the-art campus for the natural sciences).

All campuses are within easy reach of the amenities of downtown Frankfurt—such as museums, art galleries, theatres, opera and concerts, shopping, restaurants, and sports.  International students, researchers and faculty feel at home in Frankfurt—a truly international city where almost one-third of inhabitants are from other countries.
