All non-exempt students wishing to study English and/or American Studies at the Institut für England- und Amerikastudien (Bachelor as well as Lehramt) are required to take a written entrance test. All incoming students who have to take the test (i.e. who have not been exempted - see below: Test exemption) need to sign up for one of the two test sittings. Friday, June 1, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. - noon - (Sitting 1) Friday, June 1, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. (Sitting 2) Both sittings will take place in room - Hörsaalgebäude (next to Jügelhaus) - H IV (Second Floor). Address: Mertonstr. 17-21, 60325 Frankfurt (Bockenheim) The students wishing to take this test need to sign up for one of the sittings using the online form to be accessed here: Enter the required data and choose one of the sittings by using the drop-down menu. You should now check your entries again, after which you need to click on the "Anmelden" button. It is not possible to make any changes afterwards. You will not receive a confirmation. At the test sitting, a photo identification must be presented prior to admission to the test. Please note that passing the test is an entrance requirement for all non-exempt students. Please note that students wishing to study English and/or American Studies at the Institut für England- und Amerikastudien (Bachelor as well as Lehramt) are allowed to take the entrance test only one time per semester. Sample test items for both the reading comprehension section (RC) and the grammar section of the entrance test can also be accessed on the Downloads Section of this page (top right).
Test exemption In addition to being exempted from the entrance test because of high secondary school marks in English (see Sprachnachweis Englisch (Satzungen und Ordnungen)), students may also be entitled to an exemption if they have a certificate that is not older than two years from an equivalent test such as TOEFL, IELTS, APIEL, CPE, CAE or any language proficiency certificate from another university with a minimum CEF level of B2. Please note, level B2 must clearly appear on the certificate.
Self-assessment information Students can reliably self assess their own level of English via the Internet with Dialang. Dialang is a free language assessment system that gives you feedback on the strengths and weaknesses in your foreign language proficiency. In addition, it gives you advice and information about language learning. If you have a PC and an Internet connexion, you can install Dialang on your own computer. You need at least a 56kb modem, but a faster connexion is recommended. Dialang does not yet run on Macs. Visit Dialang and follow the instructions.
