Welcome to the Department of Geosciences/ Geography of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University, Frankfurt on Main!
The Department of Geosciences and Geography, like no other department, offers a broad variety of possibilities for students and scientists.
Interdisciplinary research, not only within the faculty, but also in close cooperation with other departments, is an outstanding quality of the Geosciences at Frankfurt University.
The main research areas are the structures and dynamics of the Earth interior and surface. A close look at the history of our planet, the evolution of landscapes as well as of lifeforms and the analysis of their habitats in a global view is part of scientific and educational work. The complex and versatile interactions and connections between figure, composition and dynamics of the environment and life and evolution of mankind is a major aspect in geoscientific and geographical research.
There are four institutes holding 31 chairs and over 1500 students (about 43% female, 57% male, 200 freshman in winterterm 07/08) in the Department of Geosciences and Geography at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University.
Since April 2007 teach and research the three institutes of the Department of Geosciencesand Geography, Institute of Geoscience, Institute of Physical Geography and Institute of Atmosphere and Environment, at the scientific Campus Riedberg in the new Geocenter.
