Open Positions, PhD, Master/Diploma Projects, Internships

We invite applications for an open PhD position in the context of a DFG funded project on

“Solid-state NMR and DNP on paramagnetic Membrane Proteins”

We are looking for an open-minded, enthusiastic, committed and diligent individual with a background in chemistry, biochemistry, physics or biophysics (German Diploma/MSc equivalent). Previous hands-on experience with NMR or EPR spectroscopy will be very helpful.

The successful candidate will work with “conventional” as well as DNP-supported MAS-NMR on membrane proteins. The work can be extended towards method development in the area of (pulsed) DNP and/or paramagnetic solid state NMR.  The project will be carried out in close collaborations with groups from the Institutes for Biochemistry and Theoretical and Physical Chemistry.

We offer exciting research and a state-of-the-art research infrastructure including solid-state NMR (850 and 600 MHz) and DNP (258GHz/393MHz) spectrometers. An academic staff scientist is available to provide user support.  The lab is part of the Frankfurt Centre for Biomolecular Magnetic Resonance (BMRZ), the research network SFB 807 “Transport across membranes “ and the Cluster of Excellence “Macromolecular Complexes”. It takes part in various European research and infrastructure initiatives. The lab is located at the new Riedberg Campus of the Goethe University, which is a recognised hotspot for membrane protein research and magnetic resonance spectroscopy.

Enquiries and applications shall be addressed to Clemens Glaubitz (glaubitz@em.uni.frankfurt.de). Applications should include a CV, a summary of the Diploma/Master thesis, copies of degree certificates and names of two scientists who could provide letters of support. The deadline for applications is October 30th 2011.

PhD/Postdoc: We are always looking for highly motivated co-workers interested in solid-state NMR. There are projects open in the field of low-temperature MAS, dynamic nuclear polarisation and concepts for fast data acquisition in solid-state NMR. These methodological projects will also involve membrane protein applications on systems such as proteorhodopsin. Entering these projects is possible at all levels from internship to PhD.

We offer an excellent research environment including a 850 MHz widebore instruments and a 258GHz solid-state DNP setup, computing and biochemical facilities.

Ideal candidates should have a background in Chemistry, Physics or Biochemistry. Requests and applications are always welcome. Help with application for funding will be provided if needed.
