Ecucation at Department 14:

Chemistry, Biochemistry and Pharmacy

The department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences provides the following programs of studies:

Due to the Bologna declaration the former Diplom-Courses will be transformed into consecutive Bachelor and Master programs.
As an example the Bachelor and Master programs in chemistry are presented, that has started in winter term 2005/06. The Bachelor program will last 3 years and the Master courses will take 2 years.

Bachelor of Science in Chemistry

The Bachelor program includes the theoretical and practical education in the classical fields of chemistry: Inorganic, Organic, and Physical chemistry.
Physics and mathematics are compulsatory as minor subjects. Basics of chemical information, legal sub-jects, toxicology and technical chemistry complete the qualifications of the future Bachelor students.
In addition, two optional subjects have to be studied, students can chose e.g. from the fields of Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Chemistry Teaching, Crystallography, Medical Chemistry, Mineralogy, Pharmacology, data presenation or Theoretical Chemistry.
A two-month Bachelor-Thesis completes the studies.

Master of Science in Chemistry

During the Master program, the students can choose their individuell courses.
Obligatory are only a six-month Master-Thesis and four practical research trainings (á 4 weeks). All other courses can be choosen from a wide range of lectures, seminars and practical courses according to the individual interests of the students. Students can decide whether they will do diversified studies or chose thematic main emphasis.
Students may focus on one of the following research areas (included in final certificate):

  • Biomolecular Chemistry
  • Synthesis and Catalysis
  • Structure, Dynamics and Function
  • Analytics

The master course is not organized in the traditional subjects but the range of courses has a modular design and offers an interdisciplinary course of studies.
