SeiteninhaltA 11: Thermodynamics and dynamics of one-dimensional quantum systems
JProf. Dr. Jesko Sirker In this project we will study the thermodynamical and dynamical properties of two classes of quasi one-dimensional systems: (a) We will use numerical and analytical techniques to investigate the time evolution of a prepared initial state as well as equilibrium dynamical two-point correlation functions at finite temperatures in bosonic models. (b) In the second part of the project, the thermodynamics of frustrated spin models consisting of chains with a weak frustrating interchain coupling will be studied. A particular focus of the dynamical studies will be on experimental systems consisting of ultracold bosons on optical lattices (Ott (A9)) and ion crystals in micro traps (Schmidt-Kaler (A10)). Our studies will complement alternative theoretical approaches in (Fleischhauer/ Eggert (A5), Hofstetter (A3), and Kopietz (A8)). The second part of the project will focus on Cs_2CuCl_{4-x}Br_x and related materials which are experimentally studied in projects (Wolf/Lang (B1), and Ritter/Assmus (B4)). Complementary theoretical studies on such systems will be performed in (Jeschke/Valenti (B2)) and (Eggert (B3)).
