The Buchmann Institute for Molecular Life Sciences (BMLS) on the Campus Riedberg of the Goethe Universität Frankfurt am Main (Germany) invites applications for

Research Group Leaders

The Buchmann Institute for Molecular Life Sciences (BMLS, www.bmls.de) was founded in 2009 by the Cluster of Excellence Macromolecular Complexes (www.cef-mc.de). The Institute occupies a new research building, which offers a modern infrastructure and new facilities for advanced light microscopy, molecular and chemical biology, cryoEM tomography, and structural biology. BMLS scientists interact with the local research community at the campus hosting the Biozentrum, the two MPIs for Biophysics and Brain Research and the NMR and EPR Centre (BMRZ).

The overall objective of BMLS is to foster interdisciplinary research in the modern life sciences with a focus on understanding macromolecular complexes. Within the next year, BMLS intends to appoint three early-stage independent investigators. The research interests of new groups should fall within these topics:

1.     Cell and molecular biology, signal transduction

2.     Model organisms

3.     Quantitative biology, bioinformatics, systems biology

4.     Structural biology, crystallography,

Group leaders are expected to initiate an independent and competitive research program. The Institute provides well-equipped laboratory space, access to common facilities and an initial financial support. Group leaders are appointed for a 5-year term and expected to apply for further research grants. Requirements include a PhD or MD/PhD degree, appropriate postdoctoral training and an innovative research plan.

Ihre Aufgaben:

• Eigenständige Durchführung von gewässerökologischen Untersuchungen im Freiland
• Aufbereitung von Proben im Labor
• Organisation und Aufbereitung umfangreicher Daten
• Pflege von Sammlungen und die Durchführung qualitätssichernder Maßnahmen im Labor

Ihr Profil:

• Abgeschlossene Berufsausbildung als Technische/r Assistent/in für naturkundliche Museen und

          Forschungsinstitute oder eine vergleichbare Qualifikation

• Vorkenntnisse im Bereich der Gewässerökologie/Ökologie und/oder Zoologie sowie relevante

         Arbeitsmethoden sind von Vorteil

• Sehr gute IT-Kenntnisse (MS-Office Paket) und sicherer Umgang mit großen Datenmengen
• Gute bis sehr gute Englischkenntnisse in Wort und Schrift
• Teamgeist, Sorgfalt, Motivation und Engagement sowie ein hohes Maß an Eigeninitiative

RESEARCH ASSISTANT (1/2 POSITION)
"Financial Center Index"

The Center for Financial Studies (CFS), located in Goethe University’s House of Finance, is a non-profit research center, funded by contributions from donors and members, as well as by national and international research grants.

The CFS conducts independent and internationally-oriented research in important areas of financial and monetary economics. It is also a contributor to policy debates and policy analyses, building upon relevant findings in its research areas.

We are looking for:

·         A Research Assistant (50%) with a Master level degree in Business Administration or Economics for the project “Financial Center Index“. You would coordinate the index surveys and work in a team of two researchers with split responsibilities. The main tasks of the position are to construct the index values and analyze the results. Also, you would update the internet based questionnaire on a frequent basis. You would furthermore help to manage the presentation of the index to the media.

Requirements:

• Excellent performance in your field of study
• Very good knowledge of the English and German language
• Skills in statistical software (Stata or Matlab)
• Programming skills in PHP with SQL databases
• The ability to work independently and on your own initiative
• Flexibility and team work
• Confident and pleasant manner

The Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M) is a multidisciplinary center for climate and Earth system research located in Hamburg, Germany. The Max Planck Institute for Meteorol-ogy contributes to the ComparCE project funded by the DFG (German Science foundation) within the priority program “Climate Engineering: Risks, Challenges, Opportunities?”. With re-spect to this research program we have an open position for a

Scientist/Postdoc in climate modeling/data analysis
(m/f-2013-09)

The main aim of the project is an objective and comprehensive assessment of the potential impacts, side-effects and uncertainties of various climate engineering (CE) measures and emission-reduction efforts. To achieve a fair comparison of different CE measures, these will be simulated in a single state-of-the art Earth system model (ESM).

The successful candidate will contribute to the project by: (i) performing and analyzing nu-merical simulations of different CE techniques (both land and stratosphere based) with the MPI-ESM; (ii) providing model output to the project partner GEOMAR, Kiel; (iii) comparing sensitivities of CE impacts as simulated by the MPI-ESM and an intermediate complexity model operated by GEOMAR. The project will be performed in close co-operation of all three departments of the MPI-M with German and international project partners.

Requirements:

• PhD degree in physics, mathematics, meteorology, or environmental sciences;
• Experience in modeling biogeophysical processes on a global or large-regional scale;
• Familiarity with coding and running computer models, programming skills in FORTRAN or C on a UNIX platform;
• Strong motivation and ability to carry out research in an interdisciplinary and interna-tional environment.
