Toward understanding chemistry in atmospheric aerosols: Focus on the influence of trace metals on the transformation of organic molecules

Particulate matter (PM) has been well-known as a major air pollutant during the past decades. Numerous laboratory studies and field observation of research on both inorganic and organic aerosols have been carried out in China. However, there is limited research on how redox-active metals (e.g., iron) catalyze the decomposition and transformation of organic pollutants, such as aromatic molecules or organic peroxides.

Therefore, we want to analyze the formation and transformation of the organic particulate matter, and investigate whether the different composition and concentrations of trace metals play a key role during the formation and transformation of the organic matter in the ambient atmosphere.
