Which scholarship is right for me?

    Where to start looking

    To find the right scholarship, it is worth conducting intensive online research. There are several databases that allow you to compare different scholarships. These include not only the major scholarship funds, but also lesser-known providers.

    • Stipendiumplus - Overview of the 13 scholarship foundations.
    • e-fellows - Online scholarship and career network with over 800 listings. The entries are maintained by the scholarship providers themselves.
    • Stiftungen.org - The portal for the foundation sector maintains an overview of foundations offering scholarships.
    • Initiative Frankfurter Stiftungen - The Initiative Frankfurter Stiftung provides an overview of selected foundations in and around Frankfurt.
    • ELFI - The Electronic Research Funding Information is an information brokerage system that lists funding programs by subject area. The entries also include deadlines for submitting applications.

    Funding for study abroad:

    DAAD - The website of the German Academic Exchange Service provides country-specific information on scholarship programs, university projects, and scientific collaborations.

    Scholarshipportal - On the English-language website, you can find information about funding opportunities for study and research stays, as well as internships, in various countries.

    What to focus on when choosing a scholarship

    Scholarship providers often have specific requirements, such as country of origin, gender, immigrant background, extracurricular activities, or social need. Lesser-known scholarship providers in particular may offer additional application opportunities if your application profile meets their criteria. A strong match between your interests, academic focus, and personal values is essential for a successful application.

    Don't limit yourself to applying for just one scholarship! If you find multiple scholarships that are a good fit for you, go ahead and apply. (If you plan to apply to more than one of the 13 scholarship foundations, it is recommended that you carefully consider which ones you want to apply to and be transparent about your decision in your application). If you receive multiple offers, you will likely have to make a decision. Few scholarships allow you to hold more than one fellowship at a time.
