Mobility for Individuals (Incoming)

Welcome to the Global Office at Goethe University Frankfurt!

E+ Logo

Through Erasmus+, every year Goethe University (GU) welcomes staff members from its partner universities in Europe and gladly provides them with teaching or training opportunities.

The incoming staff mobility is considered a key element in the „internationalisation at home“ which is an important aspect of our internationalisation strategy.

Staff mobility brings many advantages, such as expanding your professional network, gaining valuable experience and broadening your foreign language skills.

You have the option of a teaching staff mobility or staff mobility for training at GU.

Teaching Staff mobility includes teaching assignments that can come in various forms: seminars, lectures, workshops, and tutorials. All staff has to perform 8 teaching hours/week, including cooperative preparation and organisation of sessions as well as individual teaching sessions.

Staff mobility for training supports the professional development primarily of non-academic staff in the form of training courses, workshops or job shadowing at a department or staff training weeks.

Erasmus STA - Teaching Mobility:

There must be a valid inter-institutional agreement in the respective subject area between GU and your home institution, including teaching mobility.

Erasmus STT -  Staff Training:
  • For faculty visits: There must be a valid inter-institutional agreement in the respective subject area between GU and your home institution.
  • For administrative visits: There must be at least one valid, long-standing and well balanced inter-institutional agreement between GU and your home institution. Please note that, in accordance with our policy, we do not conclude new agreements for staff visits only. Staff weeks or similar events are currently not planned on central level.

If you are interested in participating in an individual teaching staff mobility or staff mobility for training at GU, please consult your home institution first to find out their opinion regarding the exchange. This way you can acquire important information concerning the requirements of your home institution regarding Erasmus teaching or staff exchange and possible funding options for participants coming from a programme country (EU-member state country).

Teaching (STA)

If you are planning a staff teaching assignment at GU, we advise you to contact the faculty/departmental coordinator for your subject at GU directly to enquire about the possibility and timing of the visit. The coordinator will help you organize the details of the visit such as dates, duration (usually 1-2 weeks) and content of the teaching program, and is usually the person responsible for the final decision on accepting visiting lecturers.

Individual Training (STT)

If you wish to undertake individual training at any department or service unit within GU, please contact the Global Office (GO) by writing to Ms Uta Brucker. You can additionally contact the person in charge at the department directly.

If you find a colleague at GU who is available to host you and grant you insights in his/ her tasks, you can be invited and attend a very individual Erasmus staff training. In so-called job shadowing, you contact potential hosts, set the date and duration (usually between two and five days) and discuss the topics that can be worked on together with the target department or institution at GU. If you need help, we can try to bring you in contact with relevant colleagues.

If you are still looking for a host institute or administrative department:

Please send the following documents to the Global Office (GO) by writing to Ms Uta Brucker.

-       CV including information on working language level

-       Motivation letter including information about the planned mobility period, the learning outcomes you want to achieve and the department you would like to work in.

We will then check your application and if it meets the requirements, we will forward it to the appropriate institute/department.

If your host is willing to accept you:

Congratulations! If you have been accepted as a guest trainee/ teacher, you will receive the following documents from your host:

-       Invitation letter

-       Signature on your Mobility Agreement you have handed him/her

Please provide your host with a template of the Certificate of Attendance/ Confirmation Letter and ask him/her to sign it.

To be well prepared for the visit, it is good to know…

  • the proposed visit dates
  • the specific teaching/training interests
  • the aims and objectives of the planned visit

If you receive a request to host a staff mobility visit and would be interested in doing so, arrangements can be made directly with the prospective visitor(s), though it would be helpful for the Global Office to be aware of the visit.

We recommend asking for a CV and motivation letter. This will help you to decide whether or not to accept the guest visit.

Staff with Erasmus+ funding from their home institution will usually have some documents requiring signature - these should be signed by a member of staff on behalf of the hosting department/subject area/administrative units and will generally consist of:

  • Before the mobility: Teaching/training mobility agreement outlining their dates and planned programme of activity
  • After the mobility: Certificate of attendance confirming that the teaching/training programme was completed

Although the visitor organises his stay on his own initiative and the sending university is responsible for the financing, we are happy to help with further information.
