PD Dr. Sissy Helff


Sissy Helff studied English and German in Bristol and Frankfurt/Main.
Moreover, she has worked as a journalist (epd) and script writer. In 2000 she obtained her MA at J.W. Goethe University Frankfurt with a thesis on “Die Erfahrung der Migration in der ‘Black British’-Frauenliteratur” Frankfurt am Main: Sulimma (published in German). In 2003 she completed her Erstes Staatsexamen (teacher training) and started teaching English Studies at the Institute of English and American Studies at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt. In 2005 she obtained her PhD with a thesis on Indian Diasporic Literature and Unreliable Narration “Unreliable Truths: Indian Homeworlds in Transcultural Women’s Literature” (forthcoming). In 2007/8 she was a visiting researcher at Leeds University. Currently Sissy is preparing her second PhD (“Habilitation”) for publication in English Studies on “Ambivalent Hospitality: Representing the Refugee in British Literature”.
