Meteorology is the science of weather and climate - but it is, in fact, much more! Meteorology is a discipline of the earth sciences and deeply rooted in physics. The scientific methods applied are empirical and experimental research as well as theoretical concepts, modelling and  simulations to enhance the understanding of atmospheric processes. Almost all methods rely heavily on physics and mathematics, but there are close relations to chemistry, oceanography, hydrology and geography.

Students in the Master's Programme are free to adjust their studies to their personal interest. All studies are closely connected to the topics of the institute's research groups, leading up to the Master's thesis where you participate in actual research. Additionally, there is a wide range of optional subjects to choose from to help you shape your individual scientific profile.

Meteorologie ist unter anderem die Wissenschaft von Wetter und Klima, aber sie ist noch mehr! Sie ist eine in der Physik verankerte Disziplin der Geowissenschaften, die mit experimentell-empirischen und theoretischen Methoden die Prozesse in der Atmosphäre untersucht. Außer zur Physik und Mathematik gibt es Verbindungen zur Chemie, Ozeanographie, Hydrologie und Geographie.

Anders als im Bachelorstudiengang Meteorologie, in dem die fachlichen Grundlagen gelegt werden, haben Studierende im MSc Meteorologie große Freiheiten, das Studium ganz nach ihren persönlichen Interessen zu gestalten. Bereits vom ersten Semester an werden Sie von Vertretern der einzelnen Arbeitsgruppen in den Lehrveranstaltungen systematisch auf die Forschung hingeführt, die Sie in Ihrer Masterarbeit durchführen werden. Ihr fachliches Wissen vertiefen Sie durch Wahlpflichtveranstaltungen und durch das Studium eines Nebenfachs. Das Volumen des Nebenfachs können sie in großem Maße selbst gestalten.

Der Masterstudiengang Meteorologie ist als internationaler Studiengang vollständig in Englischer Sprache gehalten.
