Sphericalconvectio

The Geodynamics research group is part of the Institute of Geosciences at the Goethe University Frankfurt. Geodynamics describes the forces, motions, deformations, energy, and mass fluxes acting in the earth or earth like bodies by the means of physical conservation equations. Invoking the fields of continuum mechanics, fluid mechanics, rheology, thermodynamics and potential theory we develop numerical models for the dynamics of the lithosphere, mantle convection, plate tectonics, and magmatic processes. The aim is to understand the physics behind these processes and compare the results to actual observations.

The group is looking for talented, motivated individuals with an interest in geodynamics, physics and computational science.
