Alev Coban is working on her PhD project “Topologies of ICT-Infrastructures in Dar es Salaam and Nairobi” at the Department of Human Geography since December 2014. She holds a B.A. in African Development Studies of Geography (2011, Bayreuth) and a M.A. in Geographies of Globalization: Markets and Metropolises (2014, Frankfurt am Main). Her master’s thesis focused on global connectivities, especially those established by ICTs in the Global South, and combined ethnographic approaches to infrastructures with epistemologies of Science and Technology Studies.
Alev is conducting her PhD within the postgraduate programme Urban Infrastructures in Transition which is sponsored by the Hans-Böckler-Stiftung. Interested in STS, postcolonial and ethnographic approaches focusing on global ‘North-South’ relations, she looks at the technology hub scenes in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam as urban nodes of knowledge production.
