Heller, Julian
![]() |
Doctoral StudentJulian Heller studied Molecular Medicine (M.Sc.) in Frankfurt on Main. After finishing his master thesis on Ataxia telangiectasia he joined the laboratory of Prof. Steinle in July 2019. Since then he investigates the expression and function of the NKC-encoded C-type lectin-like receptor NKp65 as well as interaction with its cognate ligand KACL. |

Krueger, Andreas
![]() |
Associate ProfessorAndreas studied Biochemistry in Hannover prior to moving to the German Cancer Research Center Heidelberg, Germany, where he investigated the molecular mechanism of T cell death to complete his PhD thesis. As a postdoctoral fellow at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA, he discovered his passion for the early events during the life of an emerging T cell, which have become the focus of his research ever since. Between 2007 and 2015 he was first Emmy-Noether Research Group Leader and later Associate Professor for Regenerative Immunology at the Institute of Immunology and the Cluster of Excellence REBIRTH at Hannover Medical School, Germany. There, he started to investigate the role of non-coding RNAs during T cell development and focused on spatio-temporal dynamics of pre-thymic and intra-thymic steps of T cell formation in health and disease. Since November 2015 Andreas continues his work as Associate Professor for Molecular Immunology at the Institute for Molecular Medicine. |

Kunze-Schumacher, Heike
![]() |
Doctoral StudentHeike Kunze-Schumacher completed a professional apprenticeship as medical technical assistant at Hannover Medical School in 2010. Subsequently, she joined the research and development department at the Institute for Transfusion Medicine and investigated various aspects of antigen recruitment and presentation through MHC class I molecules. In 2011, beside her employment as MTA, she started to study Biology at Leibniz University Hannover and obtained her bachelor's degree in 2014. Since her bachelor thesis at the Institute for Transfusion Medicine at Hannover Medical School she was focusing on HLA-mediated drug hypersensitivity. In 2016, she completed the master degree program Animal Biology and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover. In September 2016, Heike joined the group of Andreas Krueger at the Institute for Molecular Medicine for her doctoral thesis. |

Verheyden, Nikita
![]() |
Doctoral StudentNikita studied biochemistry in Tübingen and Halle (Saale) from 2009-2016. During his master’s thesis in the lab of Michael Kobor at the CMMT in Vancouver he investigated gene regulation, long non-coding RNAs and epigenetics. He started his Ph.D. thesis in the lab of Andreas Krueger in 2017 and is currently investigating miR-181s role in thymocyte development as well as general miRNA targeting rules in a genome-wide approach. |
