Welcome to the Department of Physics
Currently about 1,800 students are enrolled at the department of physics at Goethe-University Frankfurt. The department offers two accredited Bachelor and Master courses in physics and biophysics. In addition, lectures and practical courses are offered for the teaching degree programme as well as for students of the natural sciences and medical students.
Scientific research is of major importance to the department of physics. Within the six different institutes at the department, professors, employees and students are committed to a range of fundamental and applied research projects. They are involved in research associations, collaborations and projects with external funding. The department's main priorities of research are physics of elementary matter, condensed matter physics and biophysics.

Current information on studying in the winter semester 2020/2021:The events in the winter semester are largely offered virtually.Lecture start: November 2nd. Lecture ends: February 21, 2021. It is currently planned that some of the events for freshmen will also take place in person. The current information and the links to the online offers can be found in the course catalog from mid-September.
