Exzellenzstrategie-Wettbewerb: Goethe-Universität mit einem Clusterantrag in der ersten Runde erfolgreich

Die Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft gab heute bekannt, dass die Clusterinitiative SCALE: Subcellular Architecture of Life auf Basis ihres Konzepts nun im August 2024 einen Vollantrag stellen darf, um sich auf eine Förderung als Exzellenzcluster ab 2026 zu bewerben.

  Den Preis „Scientist of the Year“ der Alfons und Gertrud Kassel-Stiftung 2023 erhält die Mikrobiologin Prof. Inga Hänelt für ihre herausragende Forschung und ihr hohes Engagement in der NachwuchsförderungDie Heisenberg-Professorin am Institut für Biochemie der Goethe-Universität wurde ausgezeichnet für ihren Beitrag zum Verständnis von Prozessen, die Bakterien unter verschiedenen Stressbedingungen das Überleben ermöglichen; konkret geht es dabei um ihre Arbeit zur mikrobiellen Kaliumhomöostase, also zu den Prozessen, mit denen sich Bakterien durch Kaliumaufnahme oder -abgabe zum Beispiel an salzige Umgebungen, Trockenheit oder extreme pH-Werte anpassen. Hänelts mehrfach prämierte Arbeiten sind national wie international hoch angesehen und haben Eingang in höchstrenommierte Fachzeitschriften gefunden. Darüber hinaus gehört die Mikrobiologin aufgrund ihrer exzellenten Leistung vielen Forschungsverbünden der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft an. An der Goethe-Universität ist sie eine der verantwortlichen Wissenschaftler*innen der Clusterinitiative SCALE (SubCellular Architecture of LifE).

Zukunftscluster nanodiag BW startet vier Förderprojekte

Bewilligungsbescheide des BMBF in einer Gesamthöhe von annähernd 15 Mio. Euro gehen dieser Tage bei den Akteuren des Zukunftsclusters nanodiag BW ein. Damit kann das multidisziplinäre Innovationsnetzwerk unter Leitung von Hahn-Schickard (Clustersprecher Prof. Felix von Stetten) und Universität Freiburg (stv. Clustersprecher Prof. Jan C. Behrends) seine erste dreijährige Umsetzungsphase beginnen. Mit Hilfe von Nanoporentechnologien sollen epigenetische Einflussfaktoren für Krankheiten aufgespürt und innovative Produkte und Dienstleistungen in Anwendung gebracht werden.

Harald Schwalbe erhält Richard-R.-Ernst-Preis für Magnetische Resonanz

Mit dem Richard-R.-Ernst-Preis für Magnetische Resonanz der internationalen EUROMAR-Konferenz in Utrecht wurde jetzt Prof. Harald Schwalbe von der Goethe-Universität, Chemiker und Spezialist für Kernspinresonanz-(NMR)-Spektroskopie, ausgezeichnet. Er erhielt den Preis für seine wegweisenden Beiträge zur Entwicklung und Anwendung neuartiger Methoden in der biomolekularen NMR-Spektroskopie. Der Preis ist mit 15.000 Euro dotiert und wird vom Laborgerätehersteller Bruker gesponsert. Ein internationales Komitee aus renommierten Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftlern kürte den Preisträger.

 

Neue Sonderforschungsbereiche an Goethe-Universität zu Verletzungen im Herz-Kreislaufsystem und zellulären Protein-Superkomplexen

Der SFB 1507 „Proteinverbünde und Maschinerien in Zellmembranen“ nimmt ein Grundprinzip des Lebens in den Blick: biochemische Reaktionen und subzelluläre Architekturen an Membranen. Die Wissenschaftler:innen untersuchen dazu Proteinkomplexe in der Zellmembran – von Protein-Verbünden über zelluläre Maschinen bis zu Superkomplexen.

SARS-CoV-2: Achillesfersen im Viren-Erbgut
 

Bestimmte Regionen im SARS-CoV-2-Erbgut könnten sich als Ziel für künftige Medikamente eignen. Dies fanden jetzt Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt und ihre Kooperationspartner im internationalen COVID-19-NMR-Konsortium heraus. Mithilfe einer speziellen Substanzdatenbank identifizierten sie mehrere kleine Moleküle, die an bestimmte Stellen des SARS-CoV-2-Genoms binden, die fast nie durch Mutationen verändert werden.
