In 1984, Klaus-Peter Vogel established the Research Group “Bioerosion and Paleobathymetry” at the Frankfurt Institute of Geosciences. Since then it has been studying Recent and fossil endolithic microorganisms, their meaning for the reconstruction of marine paleobathymetry and their impact on bioerosion in different marine environments

The first members of the Research Team in front of the "boring tramway" (subway entrance) and the former Institute of Geology and Paleontology in Frankfurt/Main: Drs. Martina Bundschuh, Gudrun Radtke, Klaus Vogel, Ingrid Glaub und Klaus Hofmann (from left to right).
The members of the Research Team working at Lee Stocking Island, Bahamas, and their international collaborators (from left to right): R. Wicklund jun. (operator of the research sub), Drs. S. Golubic (Boston, USA), K. Vogel, T. LeCampion-Alsumard (Marseille, France), G. Radtke, M.
