"Toward a digital public history of “comfort women” in the post-victim era: The potential of translocal linkages surrounding the P'yŏnghwaŭiSonyŏsang in Seoul, Berlin, and Kyoto" (preliminary title)

Beschreibung: In her PhD research project, she primarily examines the translocal linkages established with the “comfort women” memorial, Sonyŏsang (Statue of a Girl for Peace), using the examples of Seoul, Berlin, and Kyoto. For this, she conducted fieldwork as a visiting research fellow at Waseda University in Japan and Sungkonghae University in South Korea. Her research project has been funded by the Academy of Korean Studies, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, and the Interdisciplinary Centre for East Asian Studies at Goethe University. 


"Gender, race and class im medialen Diskurs nationaler Identität: Eine kritische Analyse südkoreanischer multikultureller Fernsehsendungen"

Beschreibung: Her doctoral thesis examines how the intersecting concepts of gender, race and class function to construct a national South Korean identity in a globalized, yet hierarchical world. Her analytical focus lies on public discourses on and with migrants, especially in popular multicultural television shows.

His doctoral thesis analyses the work ethic of South-Korea in the actual social environment of capitalism. Therefore, on the one side the overall motivating factors for the human activity of work are observed. On the other side the special situation of South-Korea with its political, economical and social experience in context of its own modernizing transformation is considered.

Beschreibung: Her doctoral thesis focuses on the intercultural communication between Koreans, Germans and Europeans in Korean companies in the Frankfurt am Main area. The research analyses a range of knowledge and skills that are essential for successful intercultural action, and explores practical learning methods for intercultural competence development.


"Self-Representation and Representation of Korea on YouTube: Mediating Korean Culture Online"

Beschreibung: Her doctoral thesis explores contemporary online representations of South Korea, specifically on social media platforms that use English as their language medium. The research aims to shed light on the banal orientalism and underlying biases that come into play in ongoing online intercultural discourse.


"Discourse on the Japanese Follow-up Measures on Comfort Women in the related Nations"

Doktorandin: Minkyung Seo

Beschreibung: Her doctoral thesis takes a look at dominant narratives on Comfort Women in the related nations by analyzing governmental official statements from South Korea’s Moon regime and Japan’s Abe regime as well as mainstream media coverage. The research newly examines Populism and Humanism in the narratives beyond Nationalism and Feminism.


"Internationale Flüchtlinge in Südkorea - Eine kritische Analyse des öffentlichen Diskurses in der nationalen Presse"

Doktorandin: Marion Wambold

Beschreibung: Her doctoral thesis analyses the public discourse on refugees in South Korea by examining newspapers on a macro and micro level in order to detect possible shifts in relation to several notable incidents.


"Education and Migration: A Comparative Study of Korean Chinese Students in Seoul, Yanji and Beijing"

Doktorandin: Ruixin Wei
Betreuung: Prof. Dr. Yonson Ahn

Her doctoral thesis focuses on the mobility of the Korean-Chinese students (mainly the third generation) in both China and South Korea. The purpose of the research is to further the understanding of a young Korean Chinese generation, their cultural capital and the potential social mobility.
