Supporting students with health issues/disabilities and their autonomous choices

Finding Study Paths: Information and Support for your Daily Life on Campus

You are living your life with a health impairment, a chronic somatic disease or mental illness, and you are asking yourself, which options you have to navigate your course of studies with success and satisfaction? This page is for you.

You plan to study at Goethe University and a health impairment/disability accompanies your entrance into the academic world? Welcome!

Under the heading Choice of Subject we suggest a number of points for consideration to support your reflections on the requirements your future course of studies (degree program) might pose and their possible implications regarding your personal situation and health-related factors.

During the application process at Goethe University we gladly support our applicants with guidance and advice on health- or disability- related issues.

You are a student at Goethe University facing the challenge of a health impairment/ disability and multiple barriers. The university is at your side to support you.

Familiarise yourself with the local conditions on our premises and get to know some preliminary accessibility information. Find some practical advice on how to avoid unnecessary barriers in organsing your studies, day by day. If you require personal assistance to attend university and join campus life, our general information on assistance for people with disabilities in Germany may support your search for possible arrangements.

Find out how disability/health- related accommodations, i.e. modified conditions,  in examinations (“Nachteilsausgleich(e)") help to preserve equality of opportunity in examination situations – and how they may help you personally as a candidate with health issues. Our specialised advisory services are glad to advise you individually with regard to your personal challenges and options.

In addition, we've collected some remarks on grants and other (financial) support options to assist you in planning where to go next, academically and professionally.

On the following pages, as with our specialised study advisory service, you will find answers to questions such as:

  • How can I study successfully – and to my satisfaction – with a health impairment?
  • Which support options are available at Goethe University and in Frankfurt?
  • How can I prepare for my (course of) studies?
  • What does Goethe University do to enhance the equal and equitable participation of students with and without health impairments/disabilities academically, and with regard to student life in general?
