As part of the Curriculum and Quality Management department, the Academic Legal Affairs office supports the governing bodies and organizational units as well as the teaching staff of Goethe University in issues related to legal academic affairs. The university's legal department is responsible for other areas of law.

The responsibilities of Academic Legal Affairs include:

  • providing legal counsel to the Executive Board and the faculties in the area of legal academic affairs
  • management of the Senate commission for study and examination regulations, doctoral and post-doctoral regulations
  • preparation for the authorization as well as preparation and publication of the study and examination regulations
  • appeals office for study and examination matters of Faculties 3-16
  • representation of Goethe University in legal proceedings concerning admission to studies, student membership conditions, and examination procedures
  • preparation of bylaws and other legislation in the area of legal academic affairs
  • drafting of legal opinions, statements, etc. in the area of legal academic affairs
