Ecosystems Sciences
Klement Tockner is Director General of the Senckenberg Society for Nature Research and Professor of Ecosystem Science at Goethe University Frankfurt. His research focuses on biodiversity, water-body dynamics and sustainable river management.
Current research priorities include the ecology of rivers that periodically run dry, the consequences of large-scale infrastructure projects worldwide (e.g. dams, water diversions), and the links between biological and cultural diversity. Klement Tockner successfully led major inter- and transdisciplinary projects such as the European Commission-funded BioFresh project. He advises research institutions worldwide on their strategic development and serves on several committees and advisory boards, including the German Science and Humanities Council (Wissenschaftsrat) and the University Council of the University of Salzburg, Austria.
