Course/Exam Registration

The courses offered by Faculty 03 are published at the end of the preceding semester via the QIS platform. However, additional courses may still be added up until the start of the registration period, which usually takes place in September for the winter semester and in March for the summer semester.

The Department of International Relations of Faculty 03 provides an overview of all courses taught in English on its website before the start of the registration period here.

Yes, this is possible. However, you must coordinate this with the respective faculty. Please contact the faculty's international coordinator. You can find the relevant coordinator at Goethe University in this document. If you are unable to find the appropriate contact person, Department of International Relations of Faculty 03 will be happy to assist you.

If you no longer wish to attend a course, you must unenroll from the course via QIS so that other students can take your place. If you are already enrolled in the respective learning platform, such as OLAT, BSCW, or Moodle, please make sure to unenroll there as well.

Please make sure to keep communication with your instructors to a minimum. If you have questions that can be answered by their assistants, please contact the assistants first. You can find the email addresses of the instructors and their assistants on the website of the respective chair.

Students must register for all courses they wish to attend via QIS. This applies regardless of whether a seminar has a limited number of places or not. Course allocation is based on priorities. The registration deadlines for each semester are published online on the website of the Department of International Relations. It does not matter when you apply within the registration period. In a second registration phase, the remaining spots are allocated in real time. First-year students who enroll in Frankfurt after the first registration phase cannot register for limited courses via QIS. Please contact the instructors directly by email instead. You can find their contact information in QIS. If you encounter any difficulties, do not hesitate to contact us at international@soz.uni-frankfurt.de .

If you enroll at Goethe University after the first registration phase, you must contact the instructors of the courses you wish to take directly. You can find their contact information in QIS. If you encounter any problems with registration, please contact Department of International Relations of Faculty 03.

Seminars and proseminars are courses in which the content is actively discussed with student participation. However, seminars are at the master's level. Bachelor students can only take them as part of a specialization module. Otherwise, they attend proseminars at the bachelor's level.

A lecture is a 60–70 minute presentation followed by a discussion. Colloquia are courses designed to prepare and supervise thesis work.

Bachelor's students at Faculty 03 usually receive three ECTS for regular participation in seminars and an additional four ECTS for other achievements (e.g., exams, term papers, essays). Master's students receive three ECTS for regular participation and five ECTS for exams or final papers.

You do not need to complete the entire module to receive credits. You earn ECTS for each seminar you complete.

The International Relations Office of Faculty 03 is happy to assist you with your questions. Please contact us by email (international@soz.uni-frankfurt.de) and we can arrange an appointment.

Erasmus+ students at the Faculty of Social Sciences do not participate in the regular exam registration process. Please register informally with the instructors for each type of assignment.

If the submission deadline falls after the official end of your Erasmus+ stay, please upload the course syllabus and an official confirmation of the submission deadline via Mobility Online. In this case, check whether you can apply for an extension of your Erasmus+ stay.
