Department 10 "Modern Philologies" is one of the largest departments at Goethe University in terms of student numbers. It focuses on didactic, linguistic, literary and cultural studies research and teaching.

As the highest administrative unit in the department, the Dean's Office supports the Dean's College, the elected head of the department. It sees itself as a friendly, tolerant, learning organization.

It deals with examination matters relating to doctoral and habilitation procedures, coordinates the administration of third-party funds and organizes research projects and personnel matters in the department.
