Why good science communication matters

In many current debates, it is becoming increasingly difficult for science to make its voice heard. In an era of so-called “alternative facts,” scientific findings are sometimes even deliberately ignored or manipulated to gain an advantage. Many researchers are increasingly stepping away from this debate. As a result, it is becoming less evidence-based and more emotional, irrational, and interest-driven.

In this colloquium I will talk about the need for proper science communication and how we can include researchers, especially those early in their career. In addition I will discuss why and how a theoretical physicist founded a science communication agency and how to learn business the hard way. So if you are interested in science communication and/or starting a business, this colloquium might be for you.
