Together with the Walter Greiner Society (WGG), the department awards a prize every two years in memory of Karl Schwarzschild. The award honors scientists who have made outstanding contributions in the field of gravitational (astro)physics, including its technological aspects. The award thus recognizes the lifetime achievements and/or exemplary role of the award winners.
