Ethics commission

Joint Ethics Committee of Faculties 06 and 07
Faculties 06 and 07 at Goethe University established a joint ethics committee on April 15, 2026. This committee reviews research projects for ethical acceptability and supports you in the application process.

Step 1: Check Exempt Status
Before submitting a complete application, we recommend first checking whether your project might qualify as exempt (i.e., not requiring an in-depth ethical review). To do this, use the checklist and carefully answer all questions.

- If you can answer all questions with “no,” please send the completed checklist to nols@em.uni-frankfurt.de. No further review will be necessary.
- If you answer one or more questions with “yes” or “not sure,” a more detailed ethical review will be required.

Step 2: Submit a Complete Application
For research projects that do not qualify as exempt, please submit a formal inquiry to the ethics committee. Your submission should include the following components:
- Research grant application (including project description, methodology, and objectives)
- Ethical self-reflection: A thoughtful discussion of all potential ethical challenges, including an explanation of any points marked as “yes” or “not sure” in the checklist.
Please send your documentation to the email address provided above.

Processing Time
The ethics committee requires up to six weeks for a detailed review. Please submit your application well in advance.
