The State Initiative for the Development of Scientific and Economic Excellence – in short: LOEWE – is the title of the research funding program launched by the State of Hesse, now in its seventeenth edition. With this program, the state government provides initial funding to enable universities and research institutions in Hesse to establish sustainable areas of focus and thus further raise their profile. Another goal is to intensify networking between science, non-university research, and industry, particularly in the promotion of scientists in the early stages of their careers. In cooperation and coordination with the major research organizations, the LOEWE centers are intended to prepare the ground for the establishment of further research institutions jointly financed by the federal and state governments. The research projects funded by the state of Hesse through its LOEWE program have launched a joint communication initiative that aims to raise public awareness of the achievements of the LOEWE research projects and the LOEWE state program: ProLOEWE – Network of LOEWE Research Projects.
Goethe University and its partners have been successful in numerous initiatives in previous calls for proposals; the LOEWE priorities and centers listed below are currently being funded at Goethe University.
