As the owner of its real estate, Goethe University generally holds the right of access for all buildings and open spaces. Therefore, the premises of Goethe University are not public spaces where recordings for reporting purposes can be made without prior permission.
For film and photography projects at Goethe University's various locations, you will need a filming permit, which can usually be obtained easily and without significant effort. Filming permits for journalistic reports about Goethe University, as well as for non-commercial film and photography projects, are issued by the PR and Communications Office. Please note that access to closed spaces, including lecture halls, seminar rooms, and libraries, is subject to specific usage conditions and can only be granted after prior review of the request and the operational capacity of the university.
Special access restrictions apply to laboratories and research areas. Authorization for access and approval for any recordings (photo and video) are the responsibility of the laboratory supervisor. Filming and photography activities that may disrupt university operations (e.g., area closures, special setups, etc.) must be registered at least four weeks in advance.
Filming outside the university's regular opening hours requires additional staff and may therefore incur costs. Please note that recordings of uninvolved people (such as employees of Goethe University or students) are not part of this permission process. If you have specific requests, please coordinate directly with the individuals concerned in accordance with GDPR. Private photo recordings that are not published are generally permitted in all buildings and do not require further permission.
Please let us know which locations you wish to use and at what times; if possible, the purpose, topic, and intended media usage should also be shared in advance. Whenever possible, please allow for sufficient lead time!
