Course content and focus areas
Anglophone Literatures, Cultures and Media is focused on literature, cultural, and media studies and is taught entirely in English. The master's program explores the three main areas of "Literature and Media Culture," "Literature and Cultural History," and "Transcultural Anglophone Studies," examining the media dimensions of literature and literature studies as well as the interaction of English-language literature with other cultural media. This includes literary text production within cultural contexts and historical, political, philosophical, and artistic developments in the Anglophone world, while taking into account the transcultural dimensions of English-language literatures and cultures, both past and present. In line with the tradition of Frankfurt's English studies, particular emphasis is placed on the study of literature in historical contexts, cultural communication, cultural memory, intermediality, key concepts in media studies, and central themes in Anglophone literatures and cultures.
