The minor Bachelor’s degree program in Educational Science is a foundational academic degree program that, when combined with a major Bachelor’s degree program, leads to an initial professional qualification. Why, how, and under what societal conditions do children, adolescents, and adults learn? What biographical backgrounds and individual prerequisites do they bring with them? How and in what settings can professional educators support and guide them in their learning and educational efforts? What pedagogical considerations and concepts form the basis for this? And finally: how can learning and educational processes be scientifically explored? The minor Bachelor’s degree program provides answers to these and other questions. Through a total of five content-related and sequential teaching units (modules), it addresses educational, learning, and developmental processes across the entire lifespan. The modules reflect both the breadth of the field of Educational Science and a distinctive Frankfurt profile.
During the foundational phase of the program, students are introduced to basic knowledge and theories in Educational Science. In the advanced phase, they focus on pedagogical-professional practices in various fields of action.
The Frankfurt profile is characterized by a strong research orientation that runs through all course offerings and by a thematic focus on "dealing with diversity" (examined through the lenses of social status, gender, migration, and disability). Within the compulsory elective component, students have the opportunity to select from the department’s broad range of offerings to develop an individual academic profile aligned with their chosen major subject.
