The “Frankfurt Model” builds on the long-standing tradition of art education programs at Goethe University in Frankfurt. It is characterized by the close integration of scholarly, artistic, and pedagogical components, as well as their connection to the vibrant cultural landscape in Frankfurt am Main and the Rhine-Main region. A unique feature of the minor program is its balanced combination of theory and practice, with training that is already linked to future career fields during the course of study. The Frankfurt Model emphasizes artistic education as a cornerstone of personal development and as the basis for teaching activities grounded in aesthetic, media, and social competencies. A distinctive aspect of the Frankfurt Model is its specialized artistic practice, which interweaves analog and media-focused approaches. Additionally, the program’s comprehensive academic and didactic training, along with its placement within a university offering a broad range of disciplines, provides students with the skills essential for professional roles in art education, cultural communication, and media across a wide spectrum of careers.
Close connections with local, regional, and international art and cultural institutions offer students the opportunity to gain practical experience alongside their studies. Partner institutions include the Städel Museum, the Schirn Kunsthalle, the Museum of Modern Art, the Film Museum, the Museum of Communication, the Gallus Center, the Youth Culture Workshop Falkenheim Gallus e.V., the Intercultural Studio (IKAT) of the Museum of World Cultures, the Historical Museum, the Atelier Goldstein, and the Drama Theater in Frankfurt, as well as the Youth Art School in Offenbach and the correctional facilities in Rockenberg and Butzbach.
