Course content and focus areas

The research-oriented master's program in political science is offered at the Institute of Political Science at Goethe University Frankfurt. Building on the Bachelor's program, it provides in-depth and comprehensive knowledge of political science.

The Institute for Political Science is one of the largest in Germany and offers a wide range of courses. In the tradition of the internationally renowned Frankfurt Social Sciences department, students in the master's program learn to work independently based on scientific principles, apply scientific methods and insights, and reflect critically on societal connections.

The program allows for an in-depth study of the paradigmatic, theoretical, and methodological fundamentals of the subjects, as well as key questions of political theory, comparative political science, and international relations. Research work placements and an obligatory work placement in a professional field allow students to gain experience that will help them in future professions and to reflect on it systematically.

A successfully completed master's degree provides graduates with the necessary skills for future careers in various fields of politics, society, the economy, and culture, all of which require solid academic training and specialization in politics and the social sciences. The programs also prepare students for subsequent Ph.D. programs.
