Course content and focus areas

The master's program Religion - Media - Interculturality is designed for graduates with a bachelor's degree in Catholic theology as well as graduates of other degree programs that provide professional qualifications (provided they have prior theological knowledge). It is aimed at those seeking to acquire or deepen their academic expertise in theological-religious communication within the context of interculturality or mediality.

This master's program focuses on engaging with the validity claims of religions, particularly the Christian religion. Additionally, it connects the two major societal megatrends—interculturality, which is increasingly shaped by globalisation, and mediality, which is evolving through digitisation—with theological perspectives on religious plurality.

Successful completion of the program qualifies graduates for careers in media, journalism, public relations, adult education institutions, academic organizations, publishing houses, international cultural policy, associations, companies (especially in human resources), as well as non-governmental organizations, civil society institutions, political parties, and foundations. It also offers potential opportunities in church-related roles, with the caveat that positions within church service require a degree from a Catholic faculty. Due to its research-oriented approach, the program can also serve as preparation for pursuing a doctorate and, consequently, an academic career.
