The bachelor's program in Sinology as a minor provides the following fundamental knowledge and skills:

  • Knowledge of modern Chinese standard language;
  • Understanding of the political, social, economic, and cultural structures of modern China, along with their historical foundations;
  • Basic knowledge of intercultural communication;
  • Familiarity with the fundamentals of academic work, including skills in the procurement, analysis, evaluation, preparation, and presentation of China-related information;
  • Knowledge of the history of Sinology as a discipline and the ability to critically and reflectively engage with China-related data, sources, texts, and methods.

It also teaches specific techniques and methods:

  • Addressing concrete cultural and social issues from China's history and present;
  • Chinese communication and language culture, as well as methods in applied linguistics and sociolinguistics, and the theory and practice of inter- and transcultural communication.

Sinology can be studied as a major or as a minor.
