Course content and focus areas

The master's program in Sinology is a consecutive master's program. It is highly research-oriented and deepens students' professional and linguistic expertise in Chinese. The master's course of study expands the ability to critically absorb complex issues and enhances the capability to identify and solve linguistic and cultural problems using scientific methods. The program equips students to successfully address evolving questions and tasks in linguistic and cultural studies through scientific thinking and research.

In addition to courses on translation and source reading, students select two of the following three elective areas:

  • Chinese Knowledge Cultures  
  • Chinese-Language Literature  
  • China-Related Social Sciences
