Course content and focus areas

The main objective of the degree program is to provide advanced education in the field of environmental sciences. The Master's program in Environmental Sciences aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills, guide them toward independent thinking, and foster responsible action.

Given the constantly evolving professional landscape for environmental scientists, one of the program's goals is to enable students to quickly adapt to new developments, familiarize themselves with emerging fields, and contribute to advancements in their discipline, both in science and technology, after completing their studies.

Environmental sciences focus on processes within the biosphere, geosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere, as well as their interactions with human activity. Understanding these processes, particularly the interplay between different components, is becoming increasingly important. Examples include global climate change and resource consumption coupled with the introduction of foreign substances into ecosystems. A key challenge lies in differentiating between natural and human-induced changes and, where possible, quantifying them. This requires a deep understanding of processes, which the Environmental Sciences degree program seeks to provide to students. However, this understanding alone is often insufficient to address environmentally harmful changes. In most cases, correcting such changes also requires behavioral changes among the people involved in these processes. For this reason, the Environmental Sciences program incorporates social science aspects, such as consumer behavior and sustainability, as part of a transdisciplinary approach.
