Course content and focus areas

The Faculty of Economics at Goethe University Frankfurt has been offering the Master of Science in Business Education since the winter semester of 2008/09. This program is characterized by its flexibility and versatility. Earning the academic degree "Master of Science" represents the second professional and research-oriented academic qualification. The degree program in Business Education is designed as a consecutive master’s program.

Within the program, you can choose one of two branches of study:

The Business Education branch I deepens economic science content and is closely aligned with a master’s degree in economics.
Branch II includes, in addition to economic science studies, content from a "general" subject.

Please note: Starting in the winter semester of 2016/17, there is a change to branch I. For master’s students beginning their studies in the winter semester of 2016/17, only branch II qualifies for the postgraduate traineeship in Hesse and, consequently, for a teaching career in Hesse. Branch I, on the other hand, does not qualify for the postgraduate traineeship in Hesse.

For more details about the branches of study and the available general subjects, please refer to the information provided on the Faculty’s webpages.

The Master of Science in Business Education equips you with the expertise to independently identify challenges in vocational education and training in economics, develop solutions, and propose alternative approaches. The program delivers theoretical and practical professional knowledge with the aim of preparing you for a wide range of future roles in both school-based and non-school-based vocational education within the fields of business and administration. At the same time, you will be involved in research processes and will independently conduct limited research projects.
