Anna-Schmidt School

Founded in 1886, the Anna-Schmidt School is a privately operated, state-recognized alternative school. It follows the guidelines and curriculum framework of the state of Hesse and has its own school-specific, competency-based curriculum.

The school’s unique character stems from its educational foundation as a Montessori institution, with elements of reform pedagogy in certain areas.

Key features include: designation as a UNESCO Project School since 1979; active participation as a Culture.Explorer! school, supported by educational partners such as the Schirn Kunsthalle, the Museum of Modern Art, and others; and recognition as a STEM-friendly school since 2013. Language trips and exchange programs (including with China) further enhance its international connections. Social engagement is an integral part of our holistic educational approach, with all students participating in a social work placement. The upper school curriculum includes teacher-led course selection and a work placement. Additionally, we are a training school for aspiring teachers.
