Geography in responsibility

Research meets practice

Global challenges such as climate change, resource scarcity, and social inequality call for people who are willing to take responsibility. “Geography of Responsibility” examines how responsibility is spatially distributed and which actors, places, and structures contribute to taking or neglecting responsibility. A transdisciplinary approach combines research and practice to understand how responsibilities arise, are distributed, and are perceived in different spaces.

The FGG's 2025/26 event series highlights different aspects of responsibility in various lectures, e.g., the following topics:

  • Areas of responsibility and scope for action
  • Environmental responsibility and socio-ecological transformation
  • Presentation of the research countries or regions

The FGG is organizing numerous excursions in the 2026 summer semester. The scientific directors will present physical and human geography issues and explain the connections on site.
