MathCityMap
Discovering math outdoors
The IDMI offers mathematics teachers and their school classes the opportunity to experience mathematics in their own environment. Along a mathematical hiking trail (Mathtrail), everyday objects become mathematical problems. Guided by the free, ad-free, and GDPR-compliant smartphone app MathCityMap, students work in small groups to solve problems by measuring, counting, and calculating.
We offer Mathtrails for grades 5 through 10 on the Westend campus. Each Mathtrail for a grade level covers various topics from that grade and the previous one (such as volume of shapes, slope, and combinatorics). A Mathtrail takes about 90 minutes. At the start, there is an introduction to using the MathCityMap app, and students receive the necessary measuring tools from us.
The cost is €250 per class per session and can be arranged with us by email (info@mathcitymap.eu).
