Goethe Student Laboratory

Radioactivity and Radiation

BASIC Laboratory (for grades 9/10): Students conduct counting tube experiments with a Ra-226 radiation pen using nine identical experiment kits. The construction of a cloud chamber and the direct observation of alpha and beta rays round off the experiment day. From 9:15 a.m. to approx. 2:30 p.m. with a lunch break at Café Physik.

EXPERT Laboratory (for GO physics courses): Students learn about detection techniques in modern particle physics at permanently installed experimental stations: ionization chamber, Geiger counter, alpha, beta, and gamma spectroscopy, Rutherford scattering, gamma-gamma coincidence, cloud chamber. From 9:15 a.m. to approx. 3:00 p.m. with a lunch break at Café Physik.

Three students look at a measuring device in a laboratory.
