Alumni- und Förderverein Informatik an der Goethe Universität Frankfurt am Main

The program included several technical/scientific presentations that impressively demonstrated the capabilities of the weather service (DWD):
Mr. Leander Jamin - Director of Human Resources and Business Administration - reported on the global remit of the weather service in Offenbach under the title "DWD Wetter und Klima aus einer Hand" (DWD weather and climate from a single source).
Dr. Stefanie Hollborn gave an impressive overview of the operational and scientific projects with a focus on "KI – Einsatzgebiete in der Wettervorhersage"(AI - areas of application in weather forecasting).
The series of lectures concluded with a summary of the computer configurations at the DWD in recent years as well as the current status and an outlook by Mr. Manuel Reiter - Head of the System Support Department "Das Rechenzentrum im Technologiewandel"(The Data Center in Technological Change). 
This was followed by a detailed and interesting discussion.

After the lectures, many went to a nearby restaurant for dinner, which only ended around midnight for some participants.

The event is also particularly noteworthy because it was the first time that it was held together with the members of the Mathematics Alumni Association. Let's hope that this will continue and that we will have many more joint events in the future, which could lead to a further rapprochement between the two associations in our department.
